The ensemble: Tae-Young Kim (pianoforte/Korea), Allison Smith (oboe/USA), Kayo Nishida (clarinet/Japan), Kim Stockx (bassoon/Netherlands) and Rogier Hendrikx (horn/Netherlands) are active musicians, based in Amsterdam and the Hague.
Specializing in historical performance practice, these recent and soon-to-be graduates of the Master’s program in Early Music of the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and the Conservatory of Amsterdam join together in a period-instrument quintet of fortepiano and woodwinds to perform 18th and 19th century classical music. Their Concert programs include a variety of repertoire and instrumentation ranging from intimate settings highlighting few instruments to the famous quintets of Mozart and Beethoven.
Tae-Young Kim, born in Seoul, South Korea, began to take piano lessons at six years old. After her piano study in Seoul(South Korea) and Trossingen (Germany), she devoted herself to the fortepiano study with Eckart Sellheim at the Early Music Institute in Trossingen. In 2006 she moved to Holland and began the core period of her fortepiano study in The Hague with Bart van Oort. She has participated in numerous fortepiano masterclasses on various instruments, including those with Malcolm Bilson, Bart van Oort, Zvi Maniker, Stanley Hoogland and Andreas Staier, among others. With her deep curiosity about early piano history, she has visited numerous piano collections. Through her journey to various instrument collections, she could experience almost every type of important period pianos from the original Cristofori to antique Steinway grand. After her graduation with a bachelor degree from Royal Conservatory in the Hague in 2009, she started her further fortepiano study as a master’s degree student with Richard Egarr at Conservatorium van Amsterdam. With presenting her research about the connection between Johann Christian Bach and Mozart primarily focusing on keyboard works as her thesis work, she attained her master degree.
She attained Second Prize ex-aequo at the young talents performance concourse at the first Geelvinck Pianoforte Festival / Amsterdam Virtuosi 2011.
Currently she is living in Amsterdam as a freelance musican.

She has performed under the baton of conductors such as Gustav Leonhardt and Richard Egarr, and has appeared in ensembles from The Netherlands, France, Germany, England, and the United States. A special talent is her imitation of birdcalls by whistling for which she has been featured as soloist, from chamber music and orchestral concerts to aria and opera performances.
