Alison Luthmers Teyssler – viool

Canadian-American violinist Alison Luthmers Teyssier received her Bachelor of Music degree from the Colburn School in Los Angeles, and went on to pursue her long-standing love of Baroque violin. She now performs on both Baroque and modern violin, playing with groups such as Concerto Copenhagen (Denmark), Barokksolistene (Norway), Ensemble Zimmermann (Denmark), Arte dei Suonatori (Poland), the Malmö Symphony Orchestra (Sweden), and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment (UK) as part of the OAE Experience for Young Players 2014. She has performed in festivals such as Midsommer Barok (Denmark), Utrecht Fringe Festival (Netherlands), Tröllhattan Tidig Musik-Dagar (Sweden) and Spitalfields Music (UK). Courses attended include Urbino Musica Antica and Vancouver Early Music, where she studied with Enrico Gatti and Marc Destrube respectively. On modern violin, she has participated in festivals such as Aspen Music Festival, Music Academy of the West and the Oregon Bach Festival.

 
Alison is a founding member of the Arborea Ensemble, a period instrument group based in the Netherlands, whose mentors include Jaap ter Linden, Jacques Ogg and Wilbert Hazelzet. Her duo with keyboardist Shin Hwang explores music ranging from the obbligato harpsichord sonatas of JS Bach to the Sonata repertoire of the mid-19th century on period instruments. She also formed the duo Le Mistral (formerly The Ali & Johnny Duo) with her husband, clarinetist Johnny Teyssier. The duo plays their own arrangements of both classical works and folk music from around the world.
 
Alison lives in Malmö, Sweden, where she studies Baroque violin with Peter Spissky and Arek Golinski. She enjoys cooking, painting, yoga and learning as many different types of dance as possible.
