Areli Cortés Gutiérrez – fortepiano
Mexican early keyboardist and pianist Areli Cortés Gutiérrez began lessons at the age of nine with Professor Evelyn Villegas Aguilar. In 2006, she was accepted at the Escuela Superior de Música (National Center for the Arts, Mexico City), where she studied early keyboards and chamber music with Dr. Michael Tsalka. In February 2017, she graduated with highest honours, receiving a B. A. in Harpsichord Performance. She continues her studies, preparing this year her final recital under the guidance of Professor Ioulia Vichnevetskaya, after which she will receive a B. A. in Piano Performance from the ESM. In October 2018 she also began a Master’s degree in Harpsichord Performance at the Universität Mozarteum in Salzburg with Professor Wolfgang Brunner.
Recent performances in Mexico City include recitals at the Escuela Superior de Música, the Conservatorio Nacional de Música, the Escuela Nacional de Música, Blas Galindo Concert Hall, and the Bellas Artes Palace. She has also toured other cities in Mexico including Celaya, Yuriria, Puebla, Veracruz, Toluca, and Yucatán. She has participated in master classes under the guidance of Manfredo Kraemer, Laurence Dreyfus, Luca Giardini, Michael Tsalka, Olivier Briand, Il gardelino, and Pablo Miró Cortéz.
In Europe, Ms. Cortés received twice full fellowships to participate at the Nordic Historic Keyboard Festival in Finland (2012 and 2014), where she performed at the Kuopio Cultural Center, and studied under the guidance of Joyce Lindorff, Anna Maria McElwain, Shuann Chai, Frederic Voorn, Guan Changxin, Ulrika Davidsson, and Michael Tsalka. In 2015, she was invited to perform at the Geelvinck Fortepiano Festival in Amsterdam, Ms. Cortés played at Castle Heeswijk, at the Geelvinck Museum in Amsterdam, and at the Amstelraende concert series. She also participated in master classes for early keyboards, improvisation, and piano with Gabriele Toia, Michael Tsalka, Joyce Lindorff and Norberto Broggini.
Ms. Cortés is a founder and active member of the Mexican Baroque ensemble Kairós. She is also an active member of Antiqva Matropoli. Professor Luca Giardini invited the latter ensemble to Italy in November 2017, for a series of performances and master classes with professors from the Bruno Maderna Conservatory.
