Gaia Gaibazzi – clarinet
Gaia Gaibazzi is an Italian clarinetist and bass clarinetist.
She started playing at the age of 10 and graduated 2015 with distinction from the Conservatorio “Niccolo Paganini” of Genoa.
She completed her degrees in the Master in Music Performance at the Zürcher Hoschule der Künste in 2017 and in Master in Music Pedagogy in 2019, where she studied clarinet with Prof. Fabio Di Casola and bass clarinet with Prof. Bernhard Röthlisberger and Filipa Nunes.
She also had the opportunity to work with other professional players like Jörg Widmann, Harri Maki, Enrico Maria Baroni, Corrado Orlando and Massimo Ferraris.
She is currently teaching at the Musikschule Würenlos and Musikschule Untersiggenthal Turgi (CH).
She has been working as a music, clarinet, solfège and theory teacher since 2011 in different music schools and associations in Italy (Società Filarmonica di Finalborgo and the Complesso Bandistico “Antonio Forzano”) and in Switzerland (Intercommunity School of Zumikon, Musikverein Oberrieden, Musikschule Pratteln August Giebenach, Musik Konservatorium Zürich).
At the moment she is offering lessons at the Intercommunity School of Zumikon and she will be working as a teacher during the 2018/2019 school year at the Musik Konservatorium Zürich, managing the clarinet section rehearsals at the Dachslernstrasse school.
She has performed in several concerts in the theaters of all over Europe (Philarmonie de Paris, Victoria Hall in Geneva, Tonhalle Zurich, Philarmonie in Luxembourg, Casa da Musica of Porto, Teatro Carlo Felice of Genoa and Teatro dal Verme of Milano) and regularly collaborates with orchestras in Switzerland, for example Giraud Ensemble, ZhdK Orchestra, Arc-en-ciel Ensemble, Jugend Sinfonierorchester Zurich -JSOZ, and in Italy, such as Orchestra Giovanile Luigi Cherubini, Orchestra dell’Accademia Musicale Teresiana, Orchestra Filarmonica Italiana. Gaia played under the baton of important conductors as Riccardo Muti, Wayne Marshall, Dennis Russel Davies, Pierre-Andrè Valade, Zsolt Nagy, Marc Kissóczy and Yuri Simonov.
She also worked in many festivals as musician, for example the Alexander Arutiunian International Wind Festival in Yerewan, FIMU – Festival International de Musique Universitaire in Belfort, Zurich International Saxfest 2017 Ravenna Festival and Festival Fiati in Novara.
Gaia was awarded three first prizes and in the Klang & Gloria Competition in Zurich (2016), in Italy in the Concorso di Musica G. Ratto and in the Concorso Musicale Virginia Centurione and a third prize in the Competition for Contemporary Music of the Zürcher Hoschule der Künste (2016)
She is an active chamber musician and has the opportunity to be a member of ensembles like Clariphonia Clarinet Quartet and Trio Zefiro, playing within important concert seasons, like Concerti di Primavera-GOG, Santa Festival and MITOFringe/ Festival Mito Milano, Lange Nacht der Musik Zürich and Tage für Neue Musik Zürich.
Gaia regularly collaborates and records film and contemporary music with many Zürich composers. Since 2015, she participated at the Prelude Konzert Festival of the Tonhalle Zürich, where she had the opportunity to perform pieces by Widmann, Bartòk and Pintscher.
