Allison M. Smith – hobo
Allison M. Smith studied historical oboes with Frank de Bruine at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague (M.M., B.M.), modern oboe with Alex Klein and Ray Still at Northwestern University School of Music in the Chicago area (M.M.), and modern oboe and baroque oboe with Marc Schachman at Vassar College in upstate New York (A.B.). She participated in master classes with John de Lancie, Nicholas Daniel, Hansjörg Schellenberger on modern oboe; Alfredo Bernardini, Gonzalo Ruiz, Stephen Hammer on baroque oboe; Peter Kooij for Bach arias and Sigiswald Kuijken for chamber music. She has also participated in academies such as NJO (Dutch Orchestra and Ensemble Academy) as first oboe in the Orchestra and Ensemble of the 19th Century, Jeune Orchestre Atlantique, Ambronay, Accademia di Musica Antica (Brunico, Italy), Baroque Performance Institute at Oberlin, and Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music. She has performed under the direction of Ton Koopman, Gustav Leonhardt, Richard Egarr, Roy Goodman, Reinbert de Leeuw, Elizabeth Wallfisch, and Jane Glover, and has appeared in ensembles such as the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, l’arte del mondo, Holland Baroque, Le Concert Lorrain, Wallfisch Band, and the Chicago Opera Theater.
