ICOMOS lezing 12 februari 2020: Water & Erfgoed: Carola Hein & Arne Haytsma

Graag nodigen wij u uit voor de eerste lezing van 2020, op 12 februari a.s. met als thema Water & Erfgoed.
Onze gastsprekers Carola Hein en Arne Haytsma nemen ons deze avond mee in hun onderzoeks- en adviesprojecten die op dit snijvlak plaatsvinden. De recente heruitgave van het standaardwerk ‘Adaptive Strategies for Water Heritage’ – Past, Present & Future, uitgegeven door Springer, geeft de nieuwste inzichten op dit gebeid weer.
Zoals de lead luidt: This Open Access book, building on research initiated by scholars from the Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Centre for Global Heritage and Development (CHGD) and ICOMOS Netherlands, presents multidisciplinary research that connects water to heritage.
Water & Erfgoed is één van de huidige drie focus thema’s van ICOMOS Nederland en in de afgelopen jaren heeft dat er toe bijgedragen dit thema beleidsmatig op de kaart te zetten. Naar verwacht zal bij de komende General Assembly van ICOMOS in Sydney (1- 10 oktober 2020) dit onderwerp in een zelfstandig internationaal wetenschappelijk gremium worden ondergebracht.
Carola Hein: Adaptive Strategies for Water Heritage: Past, Present and Future
Over centuries, people have actively shaped the course, form and function of water for human settlement and the development of civilizations, establishing socio-economic structures, policies and cultures; a rich world of narratives, laws and practices; and an extensive network of infrastructure, buildings and urban form. Today, the many complex systems of the past are necessarily the basis for new systems that both preserve the past and manage water today: policy makers and designers can work together to recognize and build on the traditional knowledge and skills that old structures embody. Building on Dutch global examples, this lecture argues that there is a need for a common agenda and an integrated policy that addresses the preservation, transformation and adaptive reuse of historic water-related structures.
Arne Haytsma: Landschap, erfgoed en beekherstel
In 2000 werd de Europese Kaderrichtlijn Water van kracht. De bedoeling van de deze richtlijn is schoon water in beken, sloten en rivieren te krijgen. Vooral de waterschappen zijn actief: beken worden verlegd, verbreed of moeten kronkelen. De Rijksdienst voor het Cultureel Erfgoed (RCE) brengt een nieuw aspect in de herinrichting en aanpak van beekstelsel: het benutten van het omliggende landschap en zijn geschiedenis. Arne licht toe hoe erfgoed zo niet alleen bewaard kan worden, maar vooral ook hoe creatieve wateroplossingen uit het verleden als inspiratie kunnen dienen voor de uitdagingen waar het waterbeheer anno nu voor staat.
Sprekers
Carola Hein is Professor of History of Architecture and Urban Planning at Delft University of Technology. She has published widely in the field of architectural, urban and planning history and has tied historical analysis to contemporary development. Recent additions to her numerous publications are the Adaptive Strategies for Water Heritage (2018) and The Routledge Planning History Handbook (2018).
Arne Haytsma is senior adviseur landschap bij de Rijksdienst voor het Cultureel Erfgoed (RCE) en projectleider van het handboek Beken en erfgoed. Dit handboek is samen met de Stichting Toegepast Onderzoek Waterbeheer (STOWA) tot stand gekomen.

Non-members pay a € 5,00 entrance fee.
