“Cello in full Bloom – J.S. Bach’s Suites for Unaccompanied Cello”
J.S. Bach’s suites for cello solo are among the most well-known and celebrated pieces for this instrument, even inspiring the design of a special garden to reflect the music of the 1st Suite, in Toronto, Canada.
For the 2013 Open Garden Day, 16 June, the Geelvinck Museum invites you to tour the beautiful grounds of the Museum and to end the day with a concert of Bach’s Unaccompanied Suites for Cello and one surprise piece… giving you the chance to reflect on the infinite connection between music, nature and inspiration…
On this special occasion the Geelvinck Museum collaborates with Pegasus School for Early Music in their End of Year Concert, performed by the remarkable Anna Katynska on Baroque Cello.
Inspiration
A garden, shaped in the mood of Bach’s cello suites, inspired Anna Katynska to choose this theme for Sunday 16 June, during the Open Garden Days 2013.
This delightful Toronto garden — a reflection in landscape of Bach’s Suite No. 1 in G Major for unaccompanied cello, BWV 1007 — was designed by internationally renowned cellist Yo Yo Ma and landscape designer Julie Moir Messervy, in collaboration with landscape architects from the City of Toronto’s Parks and Recreation Department.
Program:
J.S. Bach (1685-1750) – Suite for unaccompanied cello in d minor BWV1008
