De Japanse fortepianiste Mao Omori is winnares van de tweede prijs van het International Geelvinck Fortepiano Concours 2016 en de Romain d’Ansembourg Stimulerings Prijs. Vandaag bespeelt zij een moderne piano, de Mason & Hamlin concertvleugel in onze muzieksalon. Mao is een jonge en veelbelovende pianiste die niets liever wil dan met haar spel het verhaal van de componisten overbrengen op de luisteraar. Vandaag maakt zij een muzikale reis door de tijd met de eveneens in Japan geboren mezzosopraan Eimi Witmer. U luistert naar werken van Mozart, Hahn, Ravel, Brahms, Faure, Debussy en Chausson. De solowerken van Mao Omori zijn nog een verrassing!

(The story behind the program)

 As we feel the spring is just around the corner, it wouldn’t be too early to sing of the joy and gratitude, the hope, the yearning and pain for love, or, perhaps even just of its fantasy?

We have combined the songs by five French composers; Ravel, Debussy, Hahn, Fauré and Chausson with Brahms and some piano-solo works of Mozart and Hummel.

Hahn’s “A Cloris” devotes to the eyes’ charm; followed by “Si mes vers avaient des ailles” of the same composer, simply carried on by springs warm breezes. All of the songs share the same love of the youth, but with variation of personalities, temperaments, sentiments and… fates!

Ravel’s “Deux épigrammes” sets the poem by the late renaissance poet Clément Marot; a Petrarch-influenced verses with nice little twists at the end.

Mozart’s amorous “A Chloe” has the fresh but naughty touch of Cherubino to it. The song of the humming-bird “Le Colibri” by Chausson is an enchanting fantasy of a “first kiss”.

“Le Poème d’un jour” by Gabriel Fauré is a set of three songs bout a love that seems like a story of just one day.

The less “tickled in pink” songs would be Brahms’ “Die Mainacht” of the yearning soul and Debussy’s “Beau soir” – advising us to love “… while one is young and the evening is beautiful… ”
