Eerste Paasdag in Corona-tijden en toch een live concert: het geplande Paasconcert door het Hammertime Duo op 1ste Paasdag in de gaat toch door: niet met publiek op Oud Amelisweerd, maar nu als livestream om 16.45 uur vanuit het Luther Museum in Amsterdam. U kunt er in uw eigen huiskamer bij zijn: ‘live’!

Het jonge Russische duo Olga Matieva & Nikolai Martynov speelt quatre-mains op onze Streicher fortepiano (Wenen,1867): werken van Robert Schumann, G.W. Marks (vermoedelijk een pseudoniem van Johannes Brahms) en Anton Rubinstein.
Olga en Nikolai studeren bij Olga Pashchenko (hoofddocente pianoforte, Conservatorium van Amsterdam) op onze historische piano’s in de catacomben van de Posthoornkerk (Haarlemmerstraat, Amsterdam).
Nikolai is de zoon van Olga Martynova, de bekende Russische klaveciniste en fortepianiste, die hoofddocente is aan het Tsjaikovski Instituut in Moskou (en tevens jurylid van het Geelvinck Fortepiano Concours).
Olga en Nikolai zijn echt aanstormend talent: u mag dit niet missen!

In the programme I’ve marked Johannes Brahms with a question mark, because his authorship is doubtful, even though Marks seems to be just a pseudonym created by 19th century publishers.

Instrument: 

Zij spelen op een fortepiano (collectie Museum Geelvinck), die in 1867 te Wenen gebouwd is door Johann Baptist Streicher (1796-1871), Hofleverancier van het keizerlijke Oostenrijkse hof sinds 1839. Zijn (tweede) vrouw, Friederike Müller was een studente van Chopin. Het instrument is gerestaureerd door Gijs Wilderom en het wordt gestemd door Hans Kramer (De Pianotemmer).

Corona-maatregelen:

Het Russische pianoduo Olga Matieva en Nikolai Martynov – het Hammertime Duo – zijn niet alleen muzikale partners, maar ook levenspartners. Daarom is quatre-mains (waarbij ze samen de piano bespelen) binnen de Corona-maatregels toegestaan. De cameraman staat op meer dan twee meter afstand.

Donatie

Omdat dit ons eerste live stream concert is, hebben we de prijs deze eerste keer (heel erg) laag gehouden: slechts € 1 p.p. We verwachten dat alles goed gaat (we hebben het professioneel aangepakt), maar er zou iets fout kunnen gaan (het is immers de eerste keer).
Voor die lage ticketprijs kan dit concert vanzelfsprekend financieel niet uit. We betalen de musici sowieso tenminste hun reguliere gage uit (op basis van de Fair Practice Code), ook als de inkomsten tegen vallen. Ook de stemmer en videotechnicus moeten betaald worden. En dan zijn er nog allerlei kosten, zoals de website, de administratie en de fiscus. En, last but not least, het onderhoud van de historische piano!
Zoals alle musea en concertpodia, heeft ons museum vanwege de Corona-maatregels al meer dan een maand geen enkele inkomsten meer, terwijl de vaste kosten wel gewoon doorlopen. We zijn zogezegd al in de ‘overlevingsmodus’.

Maar voor onze musici, van wie alle inkomsten gestokt zijn, is de situatie zo niet nog nijpender.
Deze livestream concerten organiseren wij, zodat de musici toch de door hen reeds voorbereidde concerten kunnen uitvoeren. Zo kunnen wij de musici in deze barre tijden helpen en bovendien onze historische fortepiano’s tot klinken brengen.

Daarom vragen wij u bij de aankoop van uw ticket ook een donatie te doen. Het resultaat (recettes en donaties) komt 50/50 ten goede aan de musici en aan ons museum ter dekking van de gemaakte kosten.

Met dank aan het Luther Museum, dat de kerkzaal belangeloos voor dit concert aan ons ter beschikking heeft gesteld.
De Geelvinck Salon is mede mogelijk gemaakt door de SKIP-regeling van het Fonds voor Podiumkunsten.

Let op: het is een live stream. U ziet en hoort het dus real-time.
Dit is dus geen video, die u later kunt herhalen.

Sunday 12th of April is the Dutch 1st Easter Day. We had planned this concert in Museum Oud Amelisweerd. However, due the strict government measures to curb the spreading of Covid-19, we had to cancel our original plan. Still the concert is on: live streamed at the Luther Museum in Amsterdam, without a physical audience. You can enjoy the concert ‘live’ at home on your desktop computer, laptop, iPad, smarttv or even on your smartphone!

The young Russian duo Olga Matieva & Nikolai Martynov performs quatre-mains on a  Streicher fortepiano (Vienna,1867) works by Robert Schumann, G.W. Marks (possibly Johannes Brahms) and Anton Rubinstein.

The original fortepiano was built in Vienna, 1867, by Johann Baptist Streicher (1796-1871), purveyor to the Imperial Austrian Court since 1839. This fine instrument, which is part of the collection of Museum Geelvinck (formerly part of the famous late Finchcocks Collection), was restored by Gijs Wilderom and is being tuned by Hans Kramer (De Pianotemmer).

Note ‘G.W. Marks’ seems to be just a pseudonym created by 19th century publishers. Possibly it is by Johannes Brahms, though his authorship is doubtful.

Because this is our very first live stream concert, we kept the ticket price really low: just € 1.00 (including 9% VAT) per person.
Obviously, this low ticket price will not gain us enough revenues for covering the costs of this live streamed concert. Of course we’ll pay the performers their regular fees (in line with the Dutch Fair Practice Code) and in addition there are the costs of tuning, video recording, website, on-line ticketing, administration, taxes etc. Not to mention, that, like many other Dutch museums, concert venues and festival organisations, our museum is already in the ‘survival mode’, due to the government restrictions to curb the spreading of Covid-19. Also note, that our museum does not receive any structural subsidies.

However, for our circle of musicians and piano technicians the current situation is even much worse: no paid concerts, means no income.
Therefore, Geelvinck Livestream Concerts aims at realising concerts, which generate income for them.
In addition, we hope to give our audience the joy of listening ‘live’ at music performed on historical pianos.
Thus, we try to keep our musical heritage alive!

That is why we kindly ask you to give a generous donation, when you buy your ticket.
The financial result of this live stream concert (both from ticket income and donations) will be shared equally between the performers and the museum to cover our costs for realising the live stream.

Biographies Hammertime Duo

“Hammertime Duo” is an ensemble exploring the keyboard duo concept as wide as possible. Its’ repertoire lies from Mozart and Dussek to Lutoslawski and Pletnev, and being performed on forte and modern piano(s) in various halls, such as Zaryadye chamber hall and Rachmaninov hall in Moscow, Philharmonia of Bialystok, Sweelinckzaal of Conservatory of Amsterdam and Bullekerk Cultureel Centrum in Zaandam.

Formed by Olga Matieva and Nikolai Martynov during their studying piano, fortepiano and harpsichord at Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, the ensemble started with usual piano duo repertoire. But a few months later an experiment with performing on fortepiano has discovered the way that the duo keeps exploring now…

The name of the duo comes from the mechanics of fortepianos and pianos (where so-called “hammers” are so necessary) and repertoire for these instruments that keeps growing since the 18th century. Passionate about discovering rare pieces, relevance of period instruments’ sound and marvellous opportunities that this gives, the duo “Hammertime” graduated from S. Kasprov, O. Martynova and O. Filippova classes cum laude, and now continues education at Conservatory of Amsterdam with Olga Pashchenko.
