Donderdag 5 maart 2015 om 20.15 uur nemen mandoline speler Alon Sariel en pianist Michael Tsalka ons mee in een muzikale wereld vol poëzie, stilte en dans, met werken van o.a. Bach, Hummel en Ullmann

Alon Sariel is een van de meest veelzijdige jonge talenten uit Israël met een dubbele carrière als instrumentalist en dirigent. Zijn poëtische gevoel voor stijl en innovatieve benadering van de mandoline, hebben hem wereldwijd lovende kritieken opgeleverd.

Michael Tsalka heeft als Israëlische concertpianist vele prijzen gewonnen in Europa en de Verenigde Staten. Met een uitzonderlijke virtuositeit speelt hij repertoire van vroege barok tot aan hedendaagse muziek op moderne piano, klavecimbel, fortepiano en orgel.

Zijn volle concertagenda brengt hem over de hele wereld met recente optredens in o.a. het Boston Early Music Festival, de Forbidden City Hall in Beijing, het Bellas Artes Theater in Mexico City en de Hermitage in St. Petersburg. In 2015-2016 zal hij 14 aan hem opgedragen wereldpremières uitvoeren door 11 componisten met verschillende nationaliteiten.

Musici:

Alon Sariel (*1986) is was trained at the Beersheba Conservatory and the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, and specialized at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels and at the Music University of Hanover.

As a mandolinist and lutenist, he is active in the fields of early and new music and has premiered over 20 works dedicated to him. Alon appeared at festivals such as the Salzburg and Lucerne Festivals, and performed in halls such as the La Scala in Milan and the Kölner Philharmonie. Recently he has collaborated with artists such soprano Dame Emma Kirkby, the trumpeter and intuitive-music artist Markus Stockhausen, as well as the violinist/conductor Jean-Christophe Spinosi.

During his studies in Jerusalem, Alon was awarded first prizes at the Chamber Music Competition, the Competition for String Instruments and the Conductors Competition. Other prizes and recognitions awarded include the Ben Haim Competition, the International Bloch Competition and the Israeli Music Competition in London, Haverhill Sinfonia Soloist Competition, the European Mandolin Award (Greece) and the Raffaele Calace Competition (Italy).

Alon is supported by the America Israel Cultural Foundation since 2002 and received excellence scholarships from the Zfunot Tarbut Foundation, from the Chais Family Foundation and the Sarny Foundation. He is active in several socio-political projects including Live Music Now (Yehudi Menuhin), Rhapsody in School (Lars Vogt) and the West Eastern Divan (Daniel Barenboim).

As a soloist and member of different ensembles, Alon toured throughout Europe, the USA, the Middle- and Far-East, including master classes at Universities such as Trinity College of Music (London) and the Lilla Akademien (Stockholm). His playing was broadcasted via radio stations worldwide, including Arte BBC4, Bayerischer Rundfunk, P2 Klassiskt, Kol HaMusika, WQXR, WNYC among others.

Currently Alon serves as musical director at the ensemble NordBarock in Hanover and at the Youth Symphony of Göttingen, while concertizing as guest soloist/conductor worldwide, with ensembles such as Munich Chamber Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Sofia Philharmonic and the Barocksolistene (Norway).

 Michael Tsalka – piano

Concert pianist and early keyboard performer Michael Tsalka (Israel/Netherlands) has won numerous awards in Europe, the U.S.A., the Middle East and Latin America. A versatile musician, he performs with equal virtuosity a wide span of repertoire from the early Baroque to our days on the modern piano, harpsichord, fortepiano, clavichord and chamber organ. Michael Tsalka pursued musical studies in Israel, Germany, and Italy, concluding in the U.S.A. in 2008 with a Master’s degree in Harpsichord Performance and a D.M.A. in Piano Performance from Temple University (Philadelphia). His teachers included Dario di Rosa, Lambert Orkis, Joyce Lindorff, Harvey Wedeen, Malcolm Bilson, Charles Rosen, and Sandra Mangsen.

These days Dr. Tsalka maintains a busy concert schedule. Recent engagements include performances at the Boston Early Music Festival, the Forbidden City Hall in Beijing, Bellas Artes Theater in Mexico City, the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, the Metropolitan Museum in New York, St. Denis Festival in Paris, Der Gasteig in Münich, and interviews and live performances for radio stations in Hong Kong, Chicago, Buenos Aires, Berlin, Munich, St. Petersburg, Beijing, Stockholm, Amsterdam, and Jerusalem.

Current and future recording projects include CDs dedicated to keyboard works by J. S. Bach, Daniel Gottlob Türk, Johann Baptist Vanhal, Carl Dittersdorf, Ferdinand Ries, Johannes Brahms, Viktor Ullmann, and Leonardo Coral. In addition, he often collaborates with contemporary composers. In 2015-2016, he will perform fourtheen world premieres dedicated to him by composers of eleven different nationalities. Together with Anna Maria McElwain, he is the co-artistic director and founder of the Nordic Historical Keyboard Festival in Kuopio, Finland. Dr. Tsalka is also the artistic director of the Geelvinck International Fortepiano Festival (Netherlands).

Tsalka has presented over sixty master classes and lectures in academic institutions and conferences around the world. Several of his scholarly articles have been published by music journals, including De Clavichordio (Italy), Piano Bulletin, EPTA (Netherlands), The Early Keyboard Journal (U.S.A.), and Early Music America (U.S.A.). He was a faculty member at the Esther Boyer College of Music (Temple University, U.S.A.), the National Center for the Arts (Mexico), and Lilla Akademien (Stockholm).
