Chie Hirai – fortepiano

Chie Hirai studeerde piano aan de Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokio en behaalde een Bachelor in Muziek in 1997. Ze specialiseerde vervolgens in het spelen op pianoforte, onder leiding van Stanley Hoogland aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium in Den Haag, waar ze in 2002 haar Masterdiploma behaalde. Ze kreeg er ook de Nicolaïprijs als beste studente van haar jaar.

Ze nam deel aan verschillende competities.

  • In 2001 behaalde ze de Derde prijs in het internationaal pianoforteconcours gehouden in Brugge, in het kader van het Festival Musica Antiqua
  • In 2004 was ze laureate met het Halcyon Ensemble in het Internationaal Van Wassenaer Concours, Amsterdam
  • Hetzelfde jaar won ze in de IYAP (International Young Artist’s Presentation) in Antwerpen.

Vanaf 2006 trad ze op tijdens verschillende Europese festivals. Ze nam deel aan een tournee in Oostenrijk met het Orfeo Barockorchester.

Sinds 2006 trad ze regelmatig op met de cellist Hidemi Suzuki en met het ensemble Halcyon. Als soliste werkte ze een programma van recitals uit onder de noemer Composers fascinated by Viennese Pianos.

Als soliste en als continuospeler heeft ze samen met ensembles voor oude muziek deelgenomen aan tournees in Europa en Japan. Ze trad op in festivals zoals het Festival Musica Antiga in Barcelona, het Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht, het Festival Académies Musicales in Saintes, het Felicja Blumental International Music Festival in Israël en de Carinthische Sommer in Oostenrijk. In 2005 was ze de officiële begeleidster tijdens het concours Oude muziek in Brugge. Sinds 2007 nam ze regelmatig deel als jurylid bij de examens pianoforte aan de Conservatoria van Amsterdam en Den Haag. (bron: wiki)

The passion for the historical keyboards brought her to the Netherlands where she completed her Master and started her career as a fortepiano specialist.

She has been appearing in the major early music festivals in Europe such as the Festival de Musica Antiga de Barcelona (Spain), Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht (Holland), Académies Musicales Festival in Saintes (France), The Felicja Blumental International Music Festival (Israel) and Carinthische Sommer (Austria). Radio broadcasting and recordings were made by such as Radio France (Paris, France), ARF (Wien, Austria) etc. She was an official accompanist in International early music competition in Bruges in 2005. In the Mozart year, 2006, Chie received several invitations to perform at European festivals.

Her Austrian tour with L’Orfeo Barockorchester in particular received great success, and she was described as “the expert of this instrument…(a) virtuoso without any trace of vanity…” (Wiener Zeitung) etc.

Since 2006, Chie and Hidemi Suzuki, the celebrated cellist and conductor has worked together. Their first CD (complete piano and cello works of Mendelssohn), released by Deutsche Harmonia Mundi, was awarded the National Art Festival Award from the Agency for Cultural Affairs Japan. The Quatre mains duo with Stanley Hoogland was received several invitations such as Finchcoks Collection in England for masterclass and concerts. 2007-2011 she has been regularly invited as a fortepiano exam committee member at the Amsterdam Conservatory and the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. She also gave masterlass in Tinska Schole in Chez and Fontis University in Tilburg in 2016.

Her “moving” to Tokyo in 2012 brought another interesting Duo’s start with the historical oboe player, Masamitsu Sannomiya. Both their 1st and 2nd albums earned the highest prize on the review magazine “Record-Geijyutsu.”

She is currently woking on Mozart Speaks, the Mozart complete solo CDs. As well as the other 9 CDs, the 4 volumes have been highly acclaimed.

Since 2012, she has been fortepiano and piano lecturer at Tokai University, Japan.
