Verena Spies – cello
Verena Spies
Inspired by her passion for music – reaching from early music to contemporary music – Verena Spies is on her way with both the modern and Baroque cello. Music has already taken her to many different countries – always together with the cello, her faithful companion.
Her repertoire includes a wide range of solos, chamber music and orchestra literature.
Born in Hannover (Germany), Verena started to take cello lessons at the age of four with Yasuko Ogata. She graduated from the University of the Arts Bern with the Bachelor of Arts – Classical Music in 2016 studying with Antonio Meneses. From autumn 2016 Verena studied modern and Baroque cello with Lucia Swarts in the Master‘s degree program at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, where she graduated with the degree Master of Music in 2018. Further artistic impulses for her stemmed from Klaus Storck, Laszlo Fenyö, Guido Larisch, Sigiswald Kujken, Lucy van Dael, Albert Brüggen and Viola de Hoog. Verena performed with several Early Music orchestras, e. g. the Nederlandse Bachvereniging, of which she was a Young Bach Fellow for the season 2017/2018. Active in many different chamber music projects, she is co-founder of the Baroque Cello Trio “corde profonde”.
