The quotation from above is reputedly by Mozart, who like many Enlightenment and Romantic composers, was profoundly influenced by Johann Sebastian Bach and his sons, Wilhelm Friedemann, Carl Philipp Emanuel, and Johann Christian.
This program makes an exploration beginning with a transcription of the Sonata in d minor violin BWV 964, followed in turn by works pushing stylistic boundaries into the Empfindsamer Stil and presaging the Romantic era.
