Musicians:

Richard Egarr was appointed Music Director of the Academy of Ancient Music in 2006. He was Associate Artist of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra from 2011 to 2017 and has been appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the Residentie Orkest in The Hague from 2019. He is Artistic Partner of The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and Music Director Designate of Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra & Chorale. He will assume Music Directorship in 2021. Egarr has conducted many leading orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra and period ensembles such as The Handel and Haydn Society. As well as an accomplished conductor Egarr is also a brilliant harpsichordist, and equally skilled on the organ and fortepiano. He regularly plays solo at major venues such as Wigmore Hall, London, and Carnegie Hall, New York, and has recorded many albums for Harmonia Mundi and Linn. He is patron of the Geelvinck Fortepiano Festival. Egarr trained as a choirboy at York Minster, was organ scholar at Clare College Cambridge, and later studied with Gustav and Marie Leonhardt. He is a Visiting Artist and Professor at The Juilliard School in New York and previously he has been professor for fortepiano at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. .

Born in Moscow, Alexandra Nepomnyashchaya studied piano and early keyboards in Moscow, Amsterdam and Munich. She has won top prizes at competitions held in Austria, Saint Petersburg, Prague and Leipzig. She appears regularly as a soloist and chamber partner at festivals all over Europe, Russia and Asia. She loves playing early keyboards, particularly with her Duo Pleyel partner, and husband, Richard Egarr. Alexandra plays often recitals for Geelvinck Music in Museums.

They just released the new CD ‘Schubert: Lebensstürme – Music for Piano Four-Hands’. Among many other fantastic quatre-mains pieces by Schubert, you’ll find the Fantasie in f minor, to be performed live in our program.

May 3rd is also the birthday of Alexandra!

Instrument:

The historic fortepiano was built in Vienna, 1867, by Johann Baptist Streicher (1796-1871), purveyor to the Imperial Austrian Court since 1839. This fine instrument, which is part of the collection of Museum Geelvinck (formerly part of the famous Finchcocks Collection), was restored by Gijs Wilderom and is being tuned by Hans Kramer (De Pianotemmer).

Support: Donate!

In this time of Covid-19, there are many on-line efforts, which are free of charge. However, neither musicians, nor museums can live from the wind. We kept the ticket price really low: just € 5.00 (including 9% VAT) per view. Obviously, this low ticket price will not generate enough revenues for covering the costs of this live stream concert. Not to mention, that, like many other museums, concert venues and festival organisations, our museum is already in the ‘survival mode’, due to the government restrictions to curb the spreading of Covid-19. Also note, that our museum does not receive any structural government subsidies.

However, for our circle of musicians and piano technicians the current situation is even much worse: no paid concerts, means no income.
Therefore, Geelvinck Livestream Concerts aims at realising concerts, which generate income for them.
In addition, we hope to give our audience the joy of listening ‘live’ music performed on historical pianos.
This way, we try to keep our musical heritage, both tangible and intangible, alive!

That is why we kindly ask you to give a generous donation, when you buy your ticket.

The concert is part of a short series of Geelvinck Livestream Concerts with the theme ‘Freedom‘ in honour of the commemoration of 75 years after the liberation of the Netherlands from the Nazi Occupation by the Allied Forces.
With gratitude to the Luther Museum, Amsterdam, which has provided the venue free of charge.
The Geelvinck Salon concert series are realised with support by the SKIP-arrangement of the Fonds voor Podiumkunsten.

Real Time

Please note: the live stream is real-time.
it is not a video, which you would be able to replay at a later moment.
Please do not miss it: join the live stream in time!

We record the concert professionally, doing our utmost to generate a high quality audio. However, the sound reproduction depends on your desktop computer, laptop, iPad, smarttv of smartphone.

Geelvinck Livestream Concerts
