Sopraan Klaartje van Veldhoven en fortepianiste Shuann Chai vertolken liederen van Schubert en Beethoven: ‘An die Ferne Geliebte’

Shuann legt uit in haar eigen woorden:

“This program explores the yearning of the heart as a wellspring for beautiful melodies. Schubert’s “Gretchen am Spinnrade”, for example, is perhaps one of the most famous songs from his own lifetime, which revolutionized the Art Song and the relationship between text and music. Here the piano is not a simple accompaniment, but the turning repetitions evoke a spinning wheel while seeming to trap Gretchen in a state of melancholy as she grieves her lost love.

Beethoven’s cycle “An die ferne Geliebte” was also a turning point for the vocal repertoire, being one of the first sets of songs to be organised in a continual cycle. It is also dedicated to a loved one far away, but the tone of the cycle is hopeful and looking forward to the joy of reunion.

Museum het Cromhouthuis

 Het Cromhouthuis vertelt het verhaal van de roemruchte familie Cromhout, die bijna twee eeuwen lang de panden aan de Herengracht 366-368 bewoonde. Hun huizen zijn vandaag de dag nog net zo imposant en fraai als destijds in de Gouden Eeuw. Het Bijbels Museum bevindt zich op de bovenste verdiepingen.
